SCHOOL TRUSTEE CANDIDATE
DISTRICT OF NORTH VANCOUVER 2026

About Rob
My name is Rob Haines, and I am running for the School Trustee position in the next Municipal Election in the District of North Vancouver.
I've spent more than 23 years in public education because I've seen firsthand the difference a great teacher can make. That's what inspired me to become a teacher—the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students, their families, and the communities that support them.

Rob's Priorities:
🎓 Students First
Every decision should focus on student success, well-being, and opportunity.
🏫 Strong Schools
Supporting the educators, resources, and environments students need to thrive.
🌟 Bright Futures
Creating pathways for every learner to reach their potential.
Professional Experience
23 Years In Education
Throughout my career, I’ve taught in Ontario, Hong Kong, and British Columbia, giving me a broad perspective on different educational systems and approaches to student learning.
My experience includes roles as secondary classroom teacher, primary special education teacher, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme educator, and Vice Principal. These experiences have allowed me to understand education from multiple perspectives—as a classroom teacher, a specialist supporting students with diverse learning needs, and a school leader working alongside students, families, educators, and support staff.
After more than two decades in education, I’m bringing this experience and perspective to my candidacy for North Vancouver School Trustee. I believe strong school leadership starts with listening, collaboration, and a clear focus on what matters most: student success.
Why I'm Running
Students Deserve the Support to Succeed
As an educator, I believe every student deserves the opportunity to succeed. My experience in special education has shown me the importance of supporting students with diverse needs, while my work in advanced academic programs has reinforced the value of high educational standards and preparing students for future success.
Over my career, I’ve seen the challenges facing public education grow. Classrooms are becoming more complex, teachers and educational assistants are facing increasing demands, and staffing shortages are affecting both student learning and working conditions. I’m also concerned about literacy and numeracy outcomes and the pressures that inadequate funding can place on our schools.
I believe the answer is not to lower expectations, but to provide students with the support they need to meet them. I’m running for North Vancouver School Trustee to bring my experience in education and school leadership to the North Vancouver School Board and advocate for strong schools, meaningful support, and better outcomes for every student.

Working for Students
Investing in Strong Schools and Bright Futures
I believe strong public schools require strong investment. As a North Vancouver School Trustee candidate, I’m committed to advocating for the resources students, educators, and families need to thrive.
That means advocating for greater investment in our North Vancouver schools, including funding to:
-
Put more resources directly into classrooms
-
Hire more teachers and educational assistants
-
Improve learning and working conditions
-
Strengthen literacy and numeracy programs
-
Address critical school infrastructure and facility upgrades
Above all, I remain committed to the principle that drew me to education more than two decades ago: helping young people thrive. I believe that when students, families, and educators are properly supported, our schools become stronger and our communities become healthier.
As a school trustee candidate for the District of North Vancouver 2026 School Board, I will bring my experience as an educator and school leader to advocate for students and help build strong schools and bright futures for North Vancouver.
